How Does FASTag Work?

FASTag Online Recharge Process
The FASTag fixed on your vehicle is linked to the user’s account and offers an online recharge facility via Net Banking or with a Debit card/ Credit Card/ RTGS/ NEFT. It offers a prepaid recharge service which the user can recharge according to their needs and use.
A prepaid account can be a wallet or your savings account. In a savings account, the money will be deducted automatically as soon as it goes below the minimum limit. Also, make sure to keep your FASTag recharged before you travel because in any case, if the tag is not recharged you may be subjected to pay an extra amount.

Recharge Process for Paytm
Recharge through Paytm is quite convenient as it contains almost all the FASTag issuing banks. Thus, making it easily accessible, all at one app portal only. You can also manage your FASTag account from Paytm.
Your FASTag from any bank can be recharged through Paytm. Refer to the following steps, before you recharge:
Step 1: As you open the Paytm app Click on the ‘FASTag’ icon option or click on the direct link mentioned above.
Step 2: You will be redirected to the next page. Select your issuing bank, Enter your vehicle number and click on the ‘Proceed’ tab.
Step 3: Enter the Recharge amount and click on proceed. You can pay through your debit card/ credit card, Paytm Wallet, Net Banking and there is an additional option of payment via UPI. So, you can pay through any medium you desire.

It will direct you to a page shown below, where you have to fill in your Wallet No., Vehicle No. or your Mobile No. succeded by an OTP. Fill in and click on ‘Submit’.
If you want to do the payment through NEFT/ IMPS, you can follow these steps :
- Login on your Internet Banking/Mobile Banking App
- Enter your Wallet ID Number or Vehicle Number on Payee Details
- On IFSC column type UTIB0000ETC and then you can further proceed with your payment.
Axis bank also offers a provision for the customers of other banks, who need to recharge their tag from the portal of Axis Bank. Such users can follow the steps:
- You need to add the other bank account
- In the column of the Account number, enter your wallet ID or Vehicle Registration Number
- On the IFSC column type the same as mentioned above and proceed to pay.
Recharge Process for HDFC Bank
To recharge on the portal of HDFC Bank. The steps are:
Step 1: As you click on the link mentioned above. You will be on the web page, depicted below.
Step 2: LOGIN according to the type of vehicle you own. For individual owners of vehicles like Cars, you need to click on the ‘Retail Login’ tab.
Step 3: You will be redirected to a page, where you can ‘Login’ with your User ID or Wallet ID. Fill in the password and proceed with the further payment.
Recharge Process for SBI Online
For recharging your FASTag through SBI Online, there are also three modes of Payment as mentioned above i.e., via the Debit card/ Credit Card, Net Banking or UPI. It can also be done through the mobile application of SBI, called the SBIYONO app available on the play store.
Step 1: Go to the official website of SBI FASTag. Fill in your Username and Password. Verify the Captcha code and click on Sign-in
Step 2: You will be redirected to a new page where you need to click on the option of ‘Tag Recharge’
Step 3: Enter the recharge amount and click on the icon of ‘Pay Now’
Step 4: After this, choose your mode of payment and a pop-up window will appear where you need to click on the icon of ‘Pay Now’
