As per the latest reports, the Education Ministry launched a new National Curriculum Framework on 23 August 2023. This new NCF will align with the policies of NEP 2020. The most eye-catching thing about this new NCF is that it says that the Board exam to be held twice a year. The different education boards in the country are planning the management for the conduct of the board exam twice a year. From what we know so far, two board exams will contain both objective and subjective questions.

However, with this inclusion in the new NCF, one question that must be lingering in the minds of the students is When will the two board exams take place in the year? In the normal scenario, all the boards conduct the board exams nearbout the dates prescribed by the CBSE.

But with this new policy in the curriculum, the boards can decide on the exam date as per the preparation level of the students of their respective schools. This is also in accordance with the on-demand exam which was listed in the National Education Policy 2020.

The board exam twice a year in this new NCF will also be vastly different from the term-wise exams. These two exams will instead be conducted separately when the students feel confident to appear for them as per the Ministry of Education.

Furthermore, this releases the stress of the students to cover up the whole syllabus for the exams to some extent as well.

The Ministry has also asked the boards to conduct the examination stress-free for the students. For this, the boards would need to give more weightage to the school assessment of the students.

More Features of the New National Curriculum Framework

Along with the conduct of the board exam twice a year, there are many other interesting new features in the New National Curriculum Framework. The list of all these features is as follows:-

  • Students of Classes 11 and 12 will have the freedom to choose subjects outside the specified streams in their schools.
  • Two languages will be mandatory to study for Class 11th and Class 12th Students. Also, one of these two languages must be Indian.
  • The test developers and evaluators of the board exams will have to take up certified courses from recognized universities before commencing their work.
  • Textbooks will be enhanced for the academic session of 2024-25.
  • The practice of covering textbooks will no longer be in existence. Moreover, the price of textbooks will be reduced.
  • The board exam will evaluate the competencies of students instead of their months of coaching and memorization.
  • The school boards will work on enhancing their abilities to organize ”on-demand” exams whenever required.

NCERT Made two Committees for the new NCF

To make the new NCF a success, the NCERT has made two committees. These two committees are the National Oversight Committee and the National Syllabus and Textbook Committee. They will ensure that the syllabus for classes 3rd to 12th will be in accordance with the requirements of the 21st century and its students.

The first orientation meeting regarding this curriculum took place on 23 August 2023. The Ministry is confident that this new curriculum and its guidelines will produce good results for students of the country.
