Link Voter ID with Aadhaar Card: The Government of India, passed the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021 in Lok Sabha on 20th December 2021 and in Rajya Sabha on 21st December 2021. Link Voter ID with Aadhaar Card is the major amendment of the Bill that has grabbed attention and after the farm bill, this Bill is also facing objections from the opposition. Prior to the assembly elections in various states including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab, etc, the Union Government passed the Bill so that the fake voters can be identified and eliminated.
After the Farm bill, this election reforms bill has become the talk of the town. The Union Law Minister stated that it is not compulsory to link Electoral Roll with Aadhaar Card. It will be a voluntary practice. The opposition parties have raised various questions regarding the privacy and security of the Aadhaar Database. As per the government, the law will eradicate fake electoral and will make sure that a voter is registered only in a single list and not on multiple voter lists.

The second biggest amendment in the law is the increase in the number of Qualifying dates. Earlier there used to be one qualifying date i.e., 1st January of every year for updating the voting rolls but after the amendment, there will be four qualifying dates i.e. in the month of January, April, July, and October.
It means if a citizen has become eligible (turned 18) for voting but his/her name is not in the electoral roll then he can apply for the same on the said date. The linking process will be primarily online. Those who do not have access to the internet could also link it offline. However, official information regarding the linking of Aadhaar and Electoral Roll is yet to be released by the Government.
