I joined this office nearly 36 years ago. I always wanted to be here and had an acute passion for this job. I worked very hard and ultimately landed here. I started as a junior. There were difficult days that were paraded with struggles and sleepless nights. Sometimes I just woke up stressed and rushed because I had to do all that it took to get promoted. I was ambitious and always wanted to grow, it was about my post or individually as a person, I aimed for heights at all times. I was awarded for my diligence and gradually I kept on receiving promotions.
Where I am right now, you see the hard work and proficiency but I see support. Had I not been supported by each one of you, I never would’ve made it. You all made the bad days good and as I look back, I can only see smiles, laughter and love. We were a unit and not colleagues. We have celebrated birthdays, marriages, festivals, success, ad so much more. But we have also mourned together, cried in solidarity, and held each other’s back. I could not have asked for a better work environment. These walls witnessed my growth, my smiles, annoyance, disappointment, zeal, and so many other emotions. Each corner of this office has a part of my heart. I might leave, but my soul can never cease to exist in this place.
I am taking a long vacation. An unending one. Now, from tomorrow, I will get up, be lazy, have my tea while not rushing for car keys, bathe freely without being on a clock, have my lunch all freshly cooked and warmed up, go for long evening strides, talk to my family in times when they are around, take care of my plants all by myself, engage in a lot watching televisions, probably also watch an entire First Class Cricket Match, and shy away from late night parties. I always wanted my life to be so carefree but I will miss being busy and motivated to do something that I was passionate about. This is how life changes.
