PM Scholarship is a scholarship scheme offered by the Welfare and Rehabilitation Board functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs. This scholarship scheme provides financial aid in education to the Widows and wards of Assam Rifles (AR), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and State Police Personnel (SPP).
Incoming applications for the academic year 2020-2021 has been ceased on 31st October 2020. Now the merit list is about to be generated and will be available soon on the official portal. The scholarship is provided in the field of technical/ professional education. So far, lakhs of students have been benefitted by this scheme. Scholarships are sanctioned by the Directorate of Welfare and Rehabilitation Board, Ministry of Home affairs. The division of the seats is 50% for girls and boys.

The scholarship scheme was started in the year 2006 for providing scholarships for the academic year of 2006-2007. The scholarship is awarded to the widows and wards of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and Assam Rifles (AR).
PM Scholarship Merit List 2021
In 2019, the government of India extended this scholarship scheme and included the widow and ward of State Police Personnel, martyred during any terror attack or any attacks by the Naxals
For the current year, 2020-2021, the applications have been closed by the Welfare and Rehabilitation Board. All those candidates who applied for the scholarship will be considered eligible to claim the scholarship and can check their further status of selection.
A total of 5500 scholarships are being hosted by the MHA, which will be disbursed equally among the girls and boys, i.e., 2750 scholarships to each. For the wards of ARs and CAPFs, a total of 2000 scholarships are disbursed, i.e, 1000 each to boys and girls respectively. Also, 500 scholarships are exclusively for the wards of State police Personnel and there is a special provision for the wards of the Personnel who are disabled.
PM Scholarship for Assam Rifles and CAPF
For AR and CAPF, the scholarship will be award to the widow/ ward of the personnel or any Ex- AR and CAPF personnel who died/ disabled due to many reasons attributed to the government servicing. It is also for the wards and widows of in-service AR and CAPF personnel.
To claim the scholarship there is a criterion for Minimum Entry Qualification (MEQ), which is the minimum percentage you need in class 12th/ equivalent. The scholarship will be offered only for the technical/ professional courses, like B.Sc Nursing, BBA, Veterinary, Engineering, B.Pharma, MCA, Agriculture, etc.
PM Scholarship for State Police Personnel
For the Police Personnel of State, the scholarship is specific to the ward/ widow of personnel who was martyred during any terror or Naxal attack can claim this scholarship. To claim the scholarship there is a similar criterion of Minimum Entry Qualification (MEQ). The courses for which the scholarship can be claimed are courses like B.Sc Nursing, BBA, Veterinary, Engineering, B.Pharma, MCA, Agriculture, etc.

Merit list lot Generation Status of PM Scholarship
The merit list lot for the scholarship has not yet been updated on the official website of the Ministry and will be updated soon. The list will be updated in the midweek of January 2021. The candidates who have applied for the scholarship are advised to check the merit list in order to claim their candidature.
The candidates who get selected to claim the scholarship will be given the annual amount of INR 36,000 (girls) and INR 30,000 (boys). The selected candidates will be given a letter by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi.
