Benefits of PM Jan Dhan Yojana Account

  • Eligible for the accidental insurance cover of Rs 2 Lakh
  • No minimum balance required for the account holders.
  • It will also cover the benefit of 30,000 life cover which will be payable on the death of the account holder but only if he/she fulfill the eligibility condition.
  • You can transfer money easily across India.
  • If they are entitling for government schemes then the amount will be credited into their account.
  • Once you operate the account successfully for six months then you are eligible for an overdraft facility of Rs 10,000 earlier it was 5000.
  • Can be accessible to pension and insurance products
  • Overdraft facility of up to Rs. Ten thousand will be given to the only one account per household and preference given to the lady households.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana Features

When PM launched this mission of PMJDY then he was looking to provide affordable services of banking services to all citizens within a reasonable distance. It comprises of 6 pillars which are given as:

Accessible to banking facilities

With this, they are trying to map each district into the SSA which means Sub service areas under which at least one to two thousand households will be covered within a range of 5 km.

Basic banking facility

Financial literacy program

To educate them about financial literacy so that, they can operate the ATM card and get to know its benefits.


Once you open the account and operate it satisfactorily for the next six months then you are eligible for the hassle-free credit facility of Rs 5000 and for that bank will not ask you for any kind of security, purpose or use of credit.

Micro Insurance Facility

With this all the BSBD (basic saving bank deposit) account holder eligible for micro-insurance and for that there are two insurance scheme

PM Jeevan Bima Yojana (PMJBY)

Under this beneficiary will get the life insurance cover of Rs 2 lakhs and for that, they had to pay only Rs 330/- per year

PM Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)

This insurance scheme will give you the accidental cover of Rs 2 lakh and for that, you have to pay only Rs 12/- per year.

RuPay debit card

Once you open the account then you will get the Rupay Card (ATM card) which also covers the accidental insurance of Rs 2 lakh only.

What is the BSBD account?

Basic Saving Bank Deposit (BSBD) account is a saving bank account that offers minimum facilities, free of charge facilities to the account holder and with this, you will get basic Rupay card.

Is PMJDY and BSBD accounts are the same?

What is this overdraft facility and who will get the benefit of this?

If you operate your account successfully for the next six month, then you can opt the facility of overdraft in which bank will give you a certain amount and for that, you do not need to submit any proof or guarantee.

Will the overdraft facility will be given to more than one account in one household?

No, the overdraft will be given only to the one account at a time in every household and the preference will be given to the female account holder of the family member.

Is there any interest that will be charged by the bank for an overdraft facility?

Yes, the bank will charge a 3% interest rate per year.
