As announced in Union Budget for 2021-22, the Government finally gave a green signal to pave the path of setting up 7 Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Parks under the PM MITRA scheme on Wednesday. The scheme will be implemented under the Ministry of Textile. The cabinet has approved a budget of Rs.4445 crores to set up these parks and world-class infrastructure facilities. This will give a tremendous boost to the Indian Textile industry and generate employment for up to 21 lakhs people of the country.

PM Mitra scheme can bring a revolution in the Textile Industry of the country. The approval of the scheme is the first step towards realizing the vision of PM Modi to build a strong position of India in the global textile industry and also to build an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The scheme includes the “5F” formula which is inspired by the Prime Minister’s 5F vision. These five Fs indicates-
– Farm to fiber
– Fibre to factory

– Fashion to foreign

The guidelines for this scheme will be issued in the coming 30-45 days as stated by Upendra Prasad Singh, the Textile Secretary. The establishment of these world-class infrastructures will not only boost the production rate but will also create huge job opportunities, scale up the economy, will facilitate Indian textile players to create their global identity, increase the competitiveness of the textile sector, and develop cutting-edge infrastructure facilities in the country.

The PM MITRAs are proposed to be developed at Greenfield and Brownfield locations of various willing states. There are various states like Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Punjab, and Telangana which have shown their interest and willingness to provide lands for the creation of the MITRA. The selection of sites for the project will be through the Challenge method.

To develop the infrastructure at Greenfields and Brownfields a maximum DCS (Development Capital Support) of Rs.500 crores and Rs.200 crores will be provided to Greenfield MITRA and Brownfield MITRA respectively. The development of these parks is going to generate 21 lakh jobs including 7 lakh direct employment and 14 lakh indirect employment opportunity. The scheme is also going to attract business and investments (FDI and from the local investors).
