NEET 2023- Percentile Rank
NEET merit ranking is determined by evaluating and analyzing the percentile score. Candidates often get confused between percentage and percentile. Although, they are related but different concepts.
A percentage is simply a number expressed as a fraction of 100. Whereas percentile provides candidates info to know their performance in the examination.
For example- If the score of A is in the 90th percentile it simply means that A has scored better than the 90% of candidates who have taken the test.
The percentile is generally calculated based on marks and the basis of rank. The formulas for calculating percentile through both methods are as follows-
- Calculation of percentile based on Marks-
Individual Score X 100 / Marks obtained by top scorer
- Calculation of percentile based on Rank-
Total appearing candidates – Rank secured / Total appearing candidate X 100
Percentile Rank- The percentage of scores falling below a given score in a group is known as a percentile rank. A percentile rank of the candidates can be calculated by the given formula-
Percentile Rank = (100 X No. of candidates who appeared with raw score EQUAL TO OR LESS than the candidate) / Total No. of the candidates who appeared
NEET 2023 Cut Off
NEET UG 2023 candidates have to secure a minimum marks/ percentile cut-off fixed by the conducted authority for each category of the candidates.

|PH (General)||45th Percentile||136-121||116-105|
|PH (SC/ST/OBC)||40th Percentile||120-107||104-93|

NEET 2023- Revaluation/ Rechecking of Result
NEET 2023 results declared by NTA will be final. NEET answer scripts are machine gradable answer sheets and they undergo a crucial evaluation process. Before the preparation of the final result, the answer scripts of every candidate are evaluated with utmost care and scrutinized repeatedly. Hence, NTA does not provide an opportunity to submit objections against the result.
The two main reasons for not having a re-evaluation policy for the NEET exam are-
- The answer scripts used in the NEET exam are machine gradable and thus are evaluated through specific software. The use of software for evaluation reduces the chances of errors and biases when checking the answer sheets.
- The second biggest reason is that candidates are allowed to challenge the answer key in case of any doubt and also submit representation OMR gradation of their OMR sheets.
This is the reason that no request made by candidates regarding re-checking, scrutiny, re-totalling, or revaluation of the answer script is entertained under any circumstances after the release of the result.
NEET 2023 Result- Inter-se-Merit/ Resolution of Tie
Lakhs of students appeared for this exam each year and the possibility of having the same marks for more than one student is quite common. To resolve the tie and determine the rank of the candidates, a tiebreaker criterion is applied. The tie-breaking criteria that are used to determine the merit of the candidates are shared as under-
- Marks in Biology- Candidates securing higher marks in the Biology section (Botany and Zoology) in the test will be preferred.
- Marks in Chemistry- If a tie persists then candidates with higher marks in Chemistry will be given preference.
- Incorrect Answers- If the tie is still not resolved then the candidate with fewer attempted incorrect answers in all the three subjects in the exam will be ranked high.
- Based on age- If a tie persists then the candidate older in age will be given preference.
