The conclusion was made on the Centre’s request in the matter considering the continuous protest of Resident Doctors. Read all the details regarding this judgment of SC here in this article.
NEET PG Counselling 2021-22
The Supreme Court-appointed Special Bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice AS Bopanna decided in favour of the Doctors reading the matter of Delay of NEET Counselling. The Centre urgently plead to the SC to decide regarding the commencement of the Couselling for both Under Graduate and Post Graduate Courses. The judgement was finally announced on 7 January 2022 that the NEET Counselling shall be started as per the Medical Counselling Commission procedures and shall not be delayed any further.
The Supreme Court added the previously followed reservations criteria shall be sustained and followed for the NEET Counselling 2021. The 27% reservation to Other Backward Classes or OBCs and 10% to Economically Weaker Section or EWS was upheld by the Apex Court.
Reason for Protest of the Doctors
The Central Government of India decided to reconsider the reservation criteria for the Economically Weaker Section in the Couselling. Hence, an appeal was made regarding this which further resulted in a delay of the Counselling Procedures. The counselling was originally scheduled for 25 October 2021. The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association or FORDA in Delhi along with other Doctors across the country reacted to this by protesting.
The main aim behind the protest was to ensure the appointment of more Medical Staff as soon as possible given the unsatisfactory ratio of Doctors and Patients. This percentage caused the present doctors to give in more working hours than they could tolerate.
