About Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are a school system running under the control of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the Government of India. These schools are affiliated with CBSE Board and are managed and controlled by an autonomous body named Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).

NVS is aimed to grant admissions to talented children coming from the rural areas of the country. Admissions in classes VI and IX are made based on an entrance test known as the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). The test is conducted every year and lakhs of candidates fill out the application and appear for it. Students must secure marks above the set cut-off criteria to qualify for the test.

Cut-off marks are the minimum marks that a candidate is required to qualify for a particular exam. Candidates scoring marks above the cut-off marks indicate that they have cleared the exam and vice-versa.

The conducting authority sets cut-off marks for every exam and thus, every competitive exam has different cut-off marks. Cut-off marks mainly depend on the number of candidates who appeared in the exam, the number of seats/vacancies available, the level of difficulty of the exam, and the marking scheme. All these factors help decide the cut-off marks for a particular exam.
