Raju Shrivastava was born and brought up in Kanpur as Satya Prakash Srivastava on 25 December 1963 to a middle-class family. His father, Ramesh Chandra Shrivastava was an acclaimed poet in the region and popularly known by the pen name, Balai Kaka. Hailing from a very traditional Uttar Pradesh cultural background, Raju had artistic traits rooted in him as he was an amazing mimic. He started mainly by mimicking his teachers at school and positively entertaining his friends.
He explored much more in the field of his talent and ended up writing and performing stand-ups. He struggled and successfully reach the stage of the Laughter Challenge. It was then that he received the recognition he truly deserved. He never really confessed his love for her and moved out to Mumbai in order to build up a successful career in Comedy. Upon enquiry, he discovered that she is getting married. He approached his family who proposed marriage to her family. Shikha never openly admitted her feelings. Raju Shrivastav became a household name when he gained massive popularity through the Comedy Show, Laughter Challenge. He ranked third and was applauded for his portrayal of the character, Gajodhar Bhyia. It was then that the glorious professionally journey of Shrivastava commenced. Before participating in the third season of Laughter Challenge, he also was part of popular TV Shows Dekh Bhai Dekh, Tea Time Manoranjan, and Shaktiman. He was already professionally active as an actor through his very short roles in movies such as Tezaab, Mainey Pyaar Kiya, Abhay, Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya, Mai Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, and more.

It was later when he became one of the major faces of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and focused on the maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene in the area. He also advertised and campaigned for the same promotion of the Abhiyan.

The comedian, Raju Shrivastav succumbed to a very unfortunate cardiac arrest on 10 August 2022. He was working out in the gym and was in the midst of his cardio session on the treadmill when he passed out after feeling pain in the chest region. He was instantly admitted to the AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. It was then declared by the doctors that his health his in a very critical state and he faced a major heart attack. Thus, he had to be treated accordingly and he went through angioplasty.
Later, the reports also suggested that he is suffering from Brain Damage after the heart problem. He is presently on a ventilator. His health is getting better day by day.
