LSG Team 2023
Owned by the RPSG Group, Lucknow Super Giants made their glorious debut in the Indian Premier League in 2022, along with the future Champions, Gujarat Titans. The team was founded on 25 October 2021 and their rights to enter the league were condoned post a franchise bid of a whopping Rs. 7,090 crores. Sanjiv Goenka who is the owner of the RPSG Group named himself as the chairman and Raghu Iyer was announced to be the Chief Executive Officer of the team. The team decided to represent the city of Lucknow, which is the capital of Uttar Pradesh State. The state got their first team in the Indian Premier League and the home ground was announced to be BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
LSG named Gautam Gambhir as the mentor while Andy Flower posed to be the Coach for the new team. Further, being the debutante, Gujarat and Lucknow were allowed to draft 3 players in advance in order to provide equity with other teams who retained 3 players ahead of the 2022 Mini Auction. Super Giants roped in KL Rahul for 17 crores, further naming him the captain. The other players they drafted were Marcus Stionis and Ravi Bishnoi. The team, in its very first season, finished the season on the third standing while reaching the Eliminator. Even though they failed to reach the finals, they still had a good and stable season which was quite the booster for the new team and management. Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2023 Retentions and Releases
On 15 November 2022, along with other teams, Lucknow too announced their retentions and releases for the season 2023. They did not make very major changes to their squad and retained nearly all of their core. The team of 2022 for LSG was supremely strong on paper. However, as they executed their plans on the ground, they figured out a shallow hole in their team’s permutations. despite having a few middle-order options, the boys of Lucknow found themselves absolutely choked in many games.
The opening partnership was extremely strong but if they occasionally collapsed, the weak middle order could not execute any plans or keep the game going. This cost a few important matches to Rahul and his camp. In order to fix this problem, LSG opened up a few slots and created an ample purse of Rs. 23.35 crores ahead of the mini-auction, by releasing many players such as Manish Pandey and Jason Holder.
IPL 2023 Player Retention List
Players LSG might target in Mini Auction 2023
As declared earlier, despite having a strong opening partnership and a very lethal bowling attack with a perfect blend of both pace and spin options, Lucknow had a difficult time capitalising on their victories to an IPL title. The prime reason for this was the shattering middle order in batting. With Manish Pandey gone, the Supergiants will focus on bidding for a very dependable middle-order batsman and provide depth to the batting order by getting in more balanced batting options to create an extremely dependable batting lineup.

Additionally, Lucknow needs a good fast-bowling option who can pair up well with Mark Wood and take up crucial wickets in death as well. Another weakness of the LSG Team was the spin attack which entirely depends on Krishnappa Gowtham and Ravi Bishnoi. They have let go of a lot of fast bowling options to create room for good spin bowlers that they will surely want to add to their camp in 2023. Thus, we can expect Lucknow to target middle-order batting options, fast death bowlers, and spinning options.

Captain of Lucknow Super Giants: KL Rahul

The Captain of Lucknow Super Giants is Kannur Lokesh Rahul who is predominantly recognised as a lethal opener for the Indian Cricket Team. His exceedingly well performance in the IPL and short formats of the game make him a well-known name. His perpetual consistency in the Indian Premier League is an inspiration. He won Orange Cap in the year 2020 and is always a leading name in the race for the highest run-getter of the season in Indian Premier Lague, lately. In the last edition, he scored 661 runs in just 15 matches with two centuries in the season.
LSG Lucknow Predictions and Team Analysis for 2023
If we closely look at the team of Lucknow, their core has been retained. They still have a very strong opening batting partnership with Rahul and Quinton de Kock. Their stability in terms of lower middle batting order seems to just hit right with All Runder and finishing options such as Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya. They do need a strong No 3 and No 4 player which they can find in Kyle Mayers and Manan Vohra. More options can be added by some sensible buys in the auction ahead.
Their spin attack entirely depends on Gowrham and Bishnoi and they need more options pertaining to that to strengthen their spin attack specifically on lands of India. The fast bowling options are balanced but a good death fast bowling alongside Wood will provide much depth and stability to the Lucknow team’s dynamic.
