Karnataka 5000 Rs Scheme: The lockdown has affected lakhs of people and especially the one who is poor and earn on a daily basis. Karnataka government has sanctioned Covid-19 compensation package, to help these people who are highly affected by this pandemic. Under this package, the government has released Karnataka 5000 Rs Scheme for Auto, Cab Drivers and other people in need.
The Chief Minister of Karnataka on 6th May 2020 sanctioned a Covid-19 compensation package for all the taxi drivers, barkers, farmers, washermen and other people of the state who are in distress due to the lockdown. The lockdown has shattered the financial conditions of these people and in order to provide a relief to these people, government has released this package.
Karnataka 5000 Rs Scheme
Under this package, a compensation of different amount will be transferred to the various categories of the beneficiaries. It is basically a one-time compensation package that is being provided to help the people in distress and going through financial crises because of the lockdown. The estimated amount of this package is Rs.1610 crore and the funds will be deposited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through the Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) mode.

- Benefits to Flower Growers
The lockdown has resulted in lack of demand for the flowers and due to which flower growers are suffering huge loss. These flowers are generally cultivating in a land area of around 11,687 hectares and taking this loss of flower growers into consideration, the government has decided to provide a compensation of Rs.25,000/- per hectare. This is limited to a maxi level of one hectare.

- Benefits to Auto-Riksha Drivers & Taxi Drivers
Farmers are not only the people who have been affected by the lockdown, but it has also affected various other professionals such as Auto-Riksha and taxi drivers. A large number of drivers have lost their jobs during these tough times and to assist them, the government has decided to provide a compensation of Rs.5,000/- to each of them. Around 7,75,000 Auto & Taxi drivers will be benefitted by this assistance.

- Benefits to Barbers and Washermen (dhobis)
There are various other service professionals who are also suffering due to the lockdown. These include Barbers and washermen/dhobis who have lost their jobs. As per Karnataka covid 19 compensation, government will be providing an assistance of Rs. Rs.5,000/- to each barber and washermen both in rural and urban areas. Around 60,000 2,30,000 barbers and washer men (dhobis) are likely to benefited with this assistance.

- Benefits to Micro, Medium and Small Enterprises (MSMEs)
Only the MNCs and other sector companies are not affected by the ongoing financial crises, the Micro, Medium and Small Enterprises (MSMEs) are also facing crises. So, to help these small industries, the government has decided to waive off their monthly charge of electricity bill for two months.
The government is going to provide following benefits to the categories of electricity consumers-
- Concessions and incentives under this compensation program will be given to those consumers who pay their bills on specified time.
- For delayed payments there will be reduction in interest.
- Consumers will be given an opportunity to make payment of the amount of the balance bill in installments.
- Those who will pay the bill in advance will be given incentive.
- The electricity connection of consumers will not be disconnected till 30th June 2020, in case they have not paid the electricity bill.
- Benefits to Weavers
Due to the slow-down of industry, the weavers of handloom and related industries are also witnessing tough situation. The state govt. has already announced Rs.109/- crores under “Weavers Loan Waiver” scheme. Some of the amount has already release and remaining Rs.80 crores will be released soon.

- Benefits to Registered Building Workers
Government is also providing assistance to the registered building workers of the state. Each worker is being given an assistance of Rs.2000/- with an additional benefit of Rs.3000/- through direct bank transfer. There are around 15.80 lakh building workers who are registered in the state. Most of them have already received their fund through DBT and remaining workers will get it soon.
