Dates for Char Dham 2023
The dates for the Chaar Dham, around which the travellers can plan their pilgrimage, have been revealed. The doors or Kapat of each temple will be opened as follows:
- Gangotri: Akshaya Tritiya 22 April 2023
- Yamnotri: Akshaya Tritiya 22 April 2023
- Kedarnath: 25 April 2023 at 6:20 AM
- Badrinath: 27 April 2023 at 7:10 AM
Itinerary for Char Dham Yatra 2023

The pilgrimage can start from Rishikesh, Haridwar, or any other point in Uttarakhand but the pilgrims will have to reach Uttarkashi from the starting point. The first temple that needs to be visited in order to complete the yatra in a clockwise motion is Yamnotri. It is the temple that is at the lowest altitude of all. It is then that the pilgrims have to move up.
The next temple is the Gangotri Temple. The next stop from there needs to be the Rudraprayag district. Tourists will have to trek to Kedarnath Temple from there. The last temple that has to be covered is Badrinath which is also the youngest of all the aforementioned temples.
Budgeting for Char Dham Yatra
The pilgrims can choose to take the pilgrimage via bus, personal vehicle, by air, or on foot. It is totally up to them how they choose to take the yatra. The government has made necessary arrangements and the tour of Char Dham which took 12 days on a usual basis can now be completed in 5 days. The budget also depends on the same. The luxuries, mode of transportation, stay options, the number of pilgrims, food preferences, starting point, and all the other factors influence the budgeting.
If the lowest estimate is considered where the yatri tries reaching each temple on foot from the respective points and opts to rake public transport, chooses the most inexpensive and decent stay, and minimises unnecessary expenses, they can complete the pilgrimage in a budget of Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 20,000 per person.

Char Dham Yatra Registration Importance
The Government of Uttarakhand has already commenced preparing for the Pilgrimage and the pilgrims can register online. Registration has been made compulsory as it is easier for the Government to make necessary preparations, make sure that security is in place, and the pilgrims are updated with the proper facilities that the Government wishes to provide them. Without a Char Dham Yatra Registration, no tourist will be able to attend the Yatra and thus an e-pass will be issued.
