UP NMMS 2023: National Means Cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) is a national-level scheme implemented state-wise. The designated authority generally carries out application and other selection procedures at the state level. The NMMS comes under the purview of the Department of School Education & Literacy of the Central Government at the national level. The UP NMMS 2023 application forms starts on 23rd August 2023. However, the concerned department of UP could change the last date for the UP NMMS application form submission.

UP NMMS application forms are generally submitted offline by the concerned school authorities. As this scheme is now updated on the NSP portal, students who qualify for the selection test (MAT & SAT) can register on the NSP portal. Those who fulfil the eligibility criteria and wish to avail of the scholarship, contact the concerned school department and apply before the last date.
Under this scheme, eligible class 8th pass students are offered scholarships of Rs. 12000/- per year (i.e., Rs.1000/- per month). Applicants must appear in the two-tier selection tests to get the scholarship. The exam date for UP NMMS 2023 will be announced in due course.

Eligibility Criteria for UP NMMS 2023
The scheme is only for certain students who fulfil the eligibility conditions laid down by the Central Government. Therefore, before applying for the UP NMMS scholarship scheme, applicants should check whether they are eligible. Those who are not aware of UP NMMS eligibility details can check the details mentioned in this section-
- Applicants should have completed class 8th and must be studying in class 9th in any recognised school (Govt, Govt.-aided & local body school).
- Students should be enrolled as regular student.
- KVS, NVS, private or other residential school students are not eligible for this scheme.
- Students must have secured at least 55% marks or equivalent in class 8th exam. (For SC and ST candidates it is 50%).
- The annual scheme of the parents of the applicants from all sources should be less than 150000 per annum.
- Other eligibility requirements as per the reservation policy of the state.
Documents Required for Application
Documents are an important part of the UP NMMS application process. Applicants must attach a copy of the important documents specified by the government with the application form. The concerned authorities will not accept applications without proper documents attached.
Applicants are required to submit the following documents at the time of application-
- Marksheet or report card of class 8th.
- Two passport sized photographs of the students
- Income certificate
- School id card
- Caste or category certificate (SC/ST candidates)
- Disability certificate issued by competent authority
- Bank account details
- Other relevant documents
Selection Process
The selection of candidates for the scholarship is made through a selection examination conducted at the state level. To be eligible for the scholarship grant, students must qualify for the exam. The designated state authorities conduct the selection test. In Uttar Pradesh, the NMMS exam is conducted by SCERT and the Department of Education. This exam consists of two tests viz.-
- Mental Ability Test (MAT)
- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
The exam is conducted in offline mode at authorized examination centres.
