Unani Medicine system is also known as Complementary/ Alternate Medicine system (CMS). Its origin has roots in Greece but today it is chiefly practiced in India. It is an Unorthodox medicine system. This system of medication dates thousands of years back and was spread over by the teachings of two physicians Hippocrates (Greek) and Gale (Roman). It is based on the principle that the occurrence of any diseases is created due to the imbalance of ‘four humours’ i.e. Yellow bile, Black bile, Phlegm, and Blood. Thus, there is a major focus on dietary intake to cure diseases.
Although this system of medication focuses on herbal remediation, the provision of therapies is also there. Practitioners of Unani medicines are called ‘Hakims’. Hakims also perform some of the minor surgeries, if required. Unani system of medicine has proved to be tremendously effective in the treatment of various skin-related problems, reproductional issues, and several lifestyle diseases.
